A thoroughfare may have multiple names within a city such as portions of US 69 in Tyler which are also known as Broadway Avenue, Glenwood Boulevard, and Gentry Parkway. To provide clarity on what roads are being improved, thoroughfares in the MPO’s plans are referred to by their numerical designation. The following list contains an explanation of common street prefixes and suffixes that may be used in various planning documents.

Street Prefixes

 CR – County Road
 FM – Farm to Market Road
 IH – Interstate Highway
 SL – State Loop
 SH – State Highway
 SS – State Spur
 US – United States Highway

AVE – Avenue
BLVD – Boulevard
DR – Drive
HWY – Highway
PKWY – Parkway
RD – Road
ST – Street
