The Tyler Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Transportation Policy Committee will meet on Thursday, July 23, at 2 p.m. in the Tyler Development Center’s large conference room, located at 423 W. Ferguson St.

The Transportation Policy Committee will consider adopting the East Grande Boulevard and Old Omen Road Route Study prepared by HDR Engineering, Inc. The study looked at:

  • Evaluating the three existing Toll 49 alternatives to influence local roadway network needs and determine how East Grande Boulevard and Old Omen Road should be extended to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.
  • Creating better connectivity between neighborhoods, schools, commercial areas, and regional corridors.
  • Supporting emergency response access and long‑term mobility in the area.

By evaluating multiple roadway alternatives together, the study looked for the combination of improvements that best serve the community, minimize impacts, and prepare the transportation network for future growth.

Residents can review the meeting agenda at TylerAreaMPO.org. Community members can contact the MPO through the department’s online contact form or by calling (903) 531-1039.

The Tyler Area MPO coordinates transportation planning for the greater Smith County area. The MPO is guided by a Transportation Policy Committee that includes representatives from Smith County, Tyler, surrounding cities, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), and the Northeast Texas Regional Mobility Authority (NET RMA).

This notice of public involvement satisfies the Federal Transit Administration's requirements for project programming.
